SureSet was contacted by Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo in early Spring 2021, after they had been impressed by a job that SureSet had completed at Stratford Butterfly Farm.
Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo was severely damaged in February 2020 by Storm Dennis and was forced to close. This, then coupled with the COVID-19 pandemic, meant they were forced to close for an extended period of time. During this time of cleaning and rebuilding they decided they wanted resin bound pathways throughout the butterfly zoo, with bright and beautiful butterfly designs inlaid into this pathway. They opted for a simple butterfly shape, but with a two-toned colour effect for that extra wow-factor!
SureSet’s Pearl Jam blend was chosen for the main pathways around the Butterfly Zoo. This blend uses aggregates supplied by Grantex Surfacing. The colour of the pathways really highlights the inset resin bound butterflies. These beautiful butterflies lead visitors through the Zoo, and through the lifecycle of a butterfly from a tiny egg to being able to walk amongst them.
The base used was SureCell; an interlocking gravel cellular grid, providing the ideal base for small areas whilst being durable and eco-friendly. SureCell can be laid directly onto compacted stone and then in-filled with loose gravel. It provides an incredibly strong and stable surface. Ideal for a heavy footfall, such as visitor centres like this.
The range of colours and textures used in this project, were specially selected to complement the surroundings, whilst the feature inlaid detail work of the resin bound butterflies, provides a sharp point of interest for visitors.
SureSet provide beautiful and hard-wearing surfaces that give many years of service and require minimal maintenance. Using only the best quality materials, SureSet’s resin bound surfaces are resistant to cracks, oil, UV-light and frost damage.
