Resin Bound specialists SureSet have launched their 2014 Poppy Appeal with limited edition poppy samples that are available to order from the company until November 11th. To commemorate the centenary of World War One, SureSet have hand crafted their poppies and are donating £1 to the Royal British Legion for every one requested

On 11th November 1919, the first anniversary of Armistice Day, King George V declared this day ‘Remembrance Day’ and dedicated it to people whose lives had been lost during the War. Since then, at 11am on 11th November every year, millions of people observe a two minute silence at to remember people affected by all conflicts.

The First World War veterans who founded the Royal British Legion in 1921 chose the poppy as a symbol of Remembrance and their Poppy Appeal, in aid of those serving in the British Armed Forces.

We received ours this week and want to spread the word about this ingenious and generous way of donating with SureSet, you can request your resin bound poppy.

This year Grantex had another great show at Grand Designs with Resin Bound and Bonded specialists Addagrip and approved Resin Surfacing contractor. After a busy start on Thursday we had a brilliant weekend speaking to contractors and the public about the ideal aggregate needs for their projects. Situated in the ‘Build’ section we were perfectly placed to speak to customers about the development of their plans and which system would work best for them, both internally and externally.

With flooding affecting many residential homes and commercial buildings in recent years, water management and flood prevention have become increasingly important to customers when deciding on surfacing. Resin Bound surfaces like some of those showcased on our stand at Grand Designs are SuDS compliant and allow rapid drainage of water in order to prevent surface saturation.

By using a mix of fine and larger grades of aggregates from our Grantex range in bound systems, contractors can offer a surface that offers a similar value for money as traditional non-permeable paving which offers distinct colouring and choice for customers. Similarly, our Grantex range can be used in any bonded system to create a more rustic textured finish that’s hard wearing and low maintenance.

We were also joined on the stand by Fluffy Side Up’s woolly team who gave us a great focal point and provided lots of photo opportunities. Shows are always a great opportunity for customers to easily see the product, and we really appreciate all of the work that Addagrip did to get the stand looking so fantastic and the expertise they offer.

This week we said goodbye to David Strutt, a long-standing member of the Long Rake family who we’ll really miss.

David started at Long Rake in 1994 when there were only a handful of people in the office and a small team in the yard. Following his arrival he helped the company to diversify and expand. His expertise, contacts and determination allowed the company to go from strength to strength, moving from supplying spar to large concrete and dashing companies to minerals processing and supplying a rapidly expanding range of products for a wide variety of sectors.

Because of David’s unwavering support and loyalty to the company Long Rake Spar has become a major supplier to the resin surfacing market and the expanding landscaping sector, now distributing aggregates across the UK and expanding further-a-field.

After a long time working at Long Rake, touching speeches from friends and colleagues, and a lovely meal at the Devonshire Arms in Beeley, we finally said farewell to a key member of the team.

Congratulations David and Happy Retirement!
