The external areas of the Oracle Shopping Centre in Reading had become unsafe due to the paving slabs surrounding it being broken and uneven. This meant that the surface needed to be replaced and the overall look of the surface greatly improved aesthetically.
DekorGrip were contacted to provide a sturdy and attractive surface to replace the old one. Their Pearl Grey Resin Bound was selected, a custom blend created specially for the installation. DekorGrip asked Long Rake Spar to provide the natural, hardwearing aggregates that were utilised within this specialist blend.
Due to the surface around the Oracle being in a major area of foot traffic for the shopping centre, it had to be very sturdy and durable.
A complete overhaul of the entire surface was required to remove all existing uneven paving slabs which were trip hazards. This ensured the area would remain smooth and enabled water to drain away freely. The SuDS compliant Grantex aggregates supplied by Long Rake Spar are ideally suited to resin bound systems which are required to be porous.
Additionally porous tarmacadam was installed prior to the DekorGrip Resin Bound system which has UV protection.
The Pearl Grey was then laid at a depth of 18mm. The installation contributed to reducing the health and safety risks, a very important aspect of public open spaces, around the shopping centre.
The use of DekorGrip Resin Bound (UV) system also means that the surface will last for years without the fear of fading through sun damage.
