The official name for the triangle shaped public realm opposite Oval Tube Station is “Kennington Oval” but it’s usually referred to as the ‘Oval Triangle’
Long Rake Spar were pleased to have recently been part of the TfL Oval Junction improvements in which the Oval Triangle benefitted from segregated cycle lanes, improved pedestrian crossings and enhanced public spaces which included; new landscaping and seating, new lighting to illuminate the trees, makeover of a ventilation shaft and a new sculpture to replace the existing fountain.
In October 2015 SureSet were contacted by CVU (Colas, VolkerHighways and URS) who, on behalf of TfL, were responsible for the public realm improvements at the Oval Triangle, between Camberwell New Road and Brixton Road.
As part of the improvements, SureSet was specified for 1407m² of their Norweigian Pearl pedestrian paving.
With the help of the Natural Aggregates supplied by Long Rake, what before was an untidy looking patchwork of repaired tarmac, paving slabs and bricks – all broken with weeds growing through, is now a low maintenance, accessible, colour and texture consistent surface.
Chosen for its aesthetics, accessibility and permeability, SureSet accommodated their client’s programme of work without the need for excavation or drainage, and the installation was carried out as scheduled.
CVU said they were impressed with SureSet’s quick response to questions and their request for samples.
The installation was completed in April 2016.
