Rubbing shoulders with Alan Titchmarsh

Over the Summer, Long Rake Spar have seen their specialist dried aggregates featured on a couple of shows hosted by Alan Titchmarsh!

Courtesy of Addagrip who were carrying out the installations, Long Rake Spar products have been utilised within resin bound surfacing on both ITV’s flagship program Love Your Garden and their brand-new home and garden makeover series for ITV called Love Your Home and Garden.

In the first episode of the new series of Love Your Garden, Long Rake saw their donated aggregates used within Addaset – a BBA approved Resin Bound paving system developed by Addagrip in the design for a modern new garden for a family in Plymouth.

The garden was built for an amazing gentleman, who is Britain’s first triple amputee. On Christmas eve he was sadly blown up by an IED in the Afghanistan conflict and lost both his legs above the knee and his right arm above the elbow.

After picking up on his story, The Royal Marines Association approached Mark Ormond to be their Welfare and Operations Assistant as were inspired by his strength and determination.

Mark has also completed fundraising expeditions including running across America in 2010, cycling the coast of Britain in 2012 and this year is planning to do a charity bike ride with his 10 year old daughter in aid of a charity for a local boy who has cancer.

Alan Titchmarsh and his team have given Mark the gift of a beautiful new style garden, which includes a children’s’ play area and seating area for entertaining family and friends.

Addagrip’s approved installer, Resin Bonded Surfacing Ltd installed Addaset Resin Bound surfacing in a 3mm Lucerne Silver blend on the access ramp and pathways around the house, complementing the design of the central dining area and providing a safe, non-slip surface for the pathway around the play area.

The finished garden looked fantastic and will provide the family with years of enjoyment.

Alan Titchmarsh’s new home and garden makeover series Love Your Home and Garden features households belonging to truly inspirational people who have given so much to the community and are deserving of the gift of a new home and garden.

Long Rake Spar donated their aggregates to feature in the third and final episode for an amazing couple, Richard and Ann, who live in Chester. Richard has been a volunteer with the Samaritans for 42 years, he and his wife have also fostered over 20 children over the last 10 years and are also volunteers and puppy trainers for Guide Dogs for the Blind. Richard has been awarded the British Empire Medal for services to the Samaritans.

As part of the makeover, Addagrip approved contractor RBS Ltd installed a resin bound porous pathway in the garden leading from the house to a seating area and garden room.

Terrabase Rustic in a 6-10mm Rustic Oak blend was chosen as the perfect surfacing system to provide a smooth, hard wearing, low maintenance, natural aggregate porous pathway with a rustic feel. The resin bound system ensures that there is no loose aggregate and can be power washed to maintain its beautiful appearance.

The deserving couple were delighted with the makeover carried out by Alan and his team and look forward to many years of enjoyment from the enhancements to their house and garden.
