Chessington World of Adventure

Long Rake Spar recently supplied aggregate from our grantex range to a project at Chessington World of Adventures carried out by Resin Bound Specialists SureSet.

Now owned by Merlin Entertainments PLC, Chessington World of Adventures Resort originally opened as Chessington Zoo in 1931. Chessington Zoo remains, but is now home to more than 1,000 animals and an exciting new play area called the AMAZU Treetop Adventure, which opened in March 2014. In order to accommodate the rising number of visitors a second hotel, The Azteca, was built in 2014.

SureSet was specified for an under-canopy walkway and external pathway that would experience an extremely high footfall and so required a highly durable, low maintenance and weather resistant surface.

After SureSet’s Technical Team had tested the concrete additive being used in the construction of the underlying base to ensure it was compatible with SureSet, work began in July 2014.

The SureSet Installation Team installed 291m² of seamless permeable resin bound paving in Barley Beach. This natural looking path perfectly complements the adjoining surfaces of grass, wood and bark and leads guests from the Azteca Hotel to the AMAZU Treetop Adventure and new restaurant terrace.
