Perfect Pocket Park Paving

The recent recovery of public spaces through ‘Pocket Parks’ in London was something Long Rake Spar were glad to be involved in.

Haringey Council’s 20 year plan is to improve streets, squares, parks, canal and riverside spaces across London with the introduction of these Pocket parks.

SureSet were requested to provide the pathway for a park in West Green Road, Tottenham which had been designed by the residents and traders in the area. The original pathway through the park had been finished with loose gravel which had resulted in the Type 1 sub-base being exposed in the main walking areas.

This raised concerns about the long term maintenance issues with because unless the gravel is swept on a daily basis and/or backfilled and compacted regularly it will remain in a constant mess.

Following a site inspection in December 2015, the Major Projects Manager for Haringey Council recommend that the loose gravel be removed and replaced with SureSet ‘to give the illusion of gravel without the maintenance issues’.

SureSet completed the installation of resin bound paving in April 2016 and resin bound gravel now edges directly against the walls of the surrounding buildings, alongside the pavement and brick block road, around the planters and up to all drains and manhole covers.

The neutral colour of the aggregates supplied by Long Rake into SureSet’s Barley Beach, contribute to the warm welcoming feeling to the Park.

The decision to replace loose gravel with SureSet resin bound paving means that maintenance is no longer an issue. An occasional sweep and power wash is all that’s needed to keep it looking as good as new.

Haringey’s Pocket Park has completely transformed a previously rundown cul-de-sac into a sociable public space for everyone to enjoy.
