Addagrip was delighted to be involved in this project for ZSL London Zoo to create a brand-new Animal Adventure Zone which gives young visitors the opportunity to meet a range of animals and learn about their lives in the wild.
The new area features low barriers designed to allow youngsters to view the animals, an exciting play area with a water splash zone and catering kiosk.
Addagrip approved contractor Limegate Ltd was invited to install over 600m2 of BBA approved Addaset Resin Bound paving to create a low maintenance, decorative surface for the new zone, developed following the devastating fire in 2017.
The challenge was to provide a robust surface with a seamless finish in an area that also included existing trees. Long Rake Spar Grantex natural aggregates for resin bound surfacing were used within the non-invasive Terrabase Rustic system, that was required to accommodate tree roots and ensure maximum porosity.
A 6mm Addaset Pecan blend was installed onto the asphalt base for the pedestrian areas in the same colour as a 10mm Terrabase Classic which was laid onto a compacted Type 3 around the trees. All of the surfacing used stone from Long Rake, thus achieving a continuous finish across the entire zone.
The result is a decorative, smooth, seamless surface which can be easily maintained and is perfect for the Zoo environment.
Work was completed in time for the opening of the new Animal Adventure Zone on the 1st August 2019.
