Long Rake Spar were thrilled to hear their aggregates had been used to rejuvenate Esplanade Green, a popular tourist spot in Newquay, Cornwall.
Esplanade Green sits right above steps that take you down to South Fistral Beach in Newquay. It is located on Pentire Point, part of the South West Coast Path, a stretch of coastline on the Pentire Headland that provides stunning views of the Atlantic sea.
The Pentire Residents Association embarked on a project to improve the Esplanade Green, intending to improve accessibility and provide hardwearing pathways that would transform the area.
With funding from Cornwall Council’s section 106 contribution for open spaces, the Pentire Residents Association worked with Cornwall Council’s Environment Service, and its partner CORMAC.
CORMAC contacted SureSet permeable paving to install resin bound paving to create more accessible, safer pathways and viewing area. SureSet then came to Long Rake Spar for the supply of vivid, warm toned natural aggregates that would be suitable for this task.
Along with the improvement of the walkways. the project aimed to increase the viewing area at the top of the beach steps and install new street furniture.
The Pentire Esplanade Project has created 869m² of new, safe, durable and accessible footpaths which offer spectacular views of the coast across and along Esplanade Road Green complete with accessible look-out points with information plinths.
Both hard-wearing and UV stable, the Grantex aggregates chosen for the new permeable surfaces have added to the natural beauty of this section of the South West Coast Path as well as giving both the local community and visitors, better and safer pedestrian access to the South West Coast Path and South Fistral Beach.
