Grantex Delivers Performance for Wakehurst Place’s World-Class Landscape

When the team at Wakehurst Place set out to enhance their network of pathways, they were looking for more than just a practical solution. As the wild botanic garden of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, Wakehurst needed a surface that could meet the demands of constant foot traffic without disturbing the quiet beauty of its natural surroundings.

To keep the aesthetic, the gardens turned to a resin-bound surface — chosen not only for its durability but for its ability to blend seamlessly with the landscape. In collaboration with Addagrip, Grantex supplied the carefully processed and screened dried aggregate that formed the surface’s visible layer — selected to echo the tones and textures of the surrounding land.

The resin-bound system was put to the test from day one — exposed to shifting weather, continuous footfall, and the unique environmental pressures of a high-profile botanical setting. Five years on, the result remains as intended: a surface that holds up under pressure while sitting lightly in the landscape.

From meadow paths to woodland walks, the material has aged gracefully, supporting the flow of visitors without stealing the spotlight.
