Bow Roundabout is an extremely busy intersection in East London which was in urgent need of an upgrade due to its high volume of shared use.
Many Safety concerns had been raised to make the junction more approachable for cyclists and pedestrians, keeping them from danger of any vehicular movements.
When the A11 overpass was built around 1970, the space around it was left largely redundant so there was plenty of scope to put this to good use. This area needed to be aesthetically pleasing as well as clearly indicating safe passage through the intersection for pedestrians and cyclists.
DekorGrip Resin Bound surfacing met the criteria perfectly and was selected in multiple colours to clearly segregate zones and areas around the roundabout.
Due to their wide variety of Grantex natural stone granules suitable for resin bound paving, DekorGrip contacted Long Rake Spar to provide the contrasting coloured aggregates. The durability of the aggregates utilised within the blend help ensure the resin bound paving is extremely hard wearing and slip resistant, making it safe and ensuring longevity with little maintenance.
DekorGrip worked closely with TFL and Ringway Jacobs to ensure the space could be fully utilised with the best systems provided to suit the needs at this location. TFL were very pleased with the outcome of the project and how it promoted a safe and consistent flow of traffic.
