Long Rake Spar aggregates now reside at Alton Towers!
Although they weren’t allowed on any of the rides, they now decorate the walkway of the Forbidden Valley area of Alton Towers amusement park in Staffordshire.
Addagrip approved contractor Resin Bonded Surfacing Ltd were delighted to be asked to install the new resin bound walkway in the Forbidden Valley area of Alton Towers.
Over 900sqm of BBA approved Terrabound Resin Bound porous surfacing was laid on the new pathway leading from the Monorail to Galactica – the new flying rollercoaster ride which features cutting edge Virtual Reality.
The path’s design required the surface to feature a ‘swirly pattern’ giving an organic flow to the walkway. Resin Bonded Surfacing Ltd created the pattern by spraying out the design to mark out the two different surfacing colours that utilised Long Rake’s high quality natural aggregates. The two colours that had been selected were the Terrabound Trent and Terrabound Autumn Toffee blends, which were then delineated with aluminium edging. The pathway also required a resin bound black and white crossing which was installed using bespoke blends of marble and basalt aggregates.
Harsh weather interrupted installation and to meet the client’s deadline, the Doncaster team had to work until dusk to complete the surfacing in time for the opening of the Galactica ride.
The finished Terrabound surface is attractive and functional, providing a smooth porous walkway that will stand up to heavy pedestrian use and maintenance vehicles at this busy visitor attraction.
